{"id":1391,"date":"2019-05-31T14:17:00","date_gmt":"2019-05-31T18:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/northamptonhousing.org\/?page_id=1391"},"modified":"2019-06-03T07:21:56","modified_gmt":"2019-06-03T11:21:56","slug":"emergency-transfer","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.northamptonhousing.org\/?page_id=1391","title":{"rendered":"Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"description\">Emergency Transfers<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Northampton Housing Authority Housing Provider (HP) <\/strong>is concerned about the safety of its tenants, and such concern extends to tenants who are victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking.\u00a0 In accordance with the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), HP allows tenants who are victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking to request an emergency transfer from the tenant\u2019s current unit to another unit.\u00a0 The ability to request a transfer is available regardless of sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation. The ability of HP to honor such request for tenants currently receiving assistance, however, may depend upon a preliminary determination that the tenant is or has been a victim of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking, and on whether HP has another dwelling unit that is available and is safe to offer the tenant for temporary or more permanent occupancy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This plan identifies tenants who are eligible for an emergency transfer, the documentation needed to request an emergency transfer, confidentiality protections, how an emergency transfer may occur, and guidance to tenants on safety and security.\u00a0 This plan is based on a model<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Despite the name of this law, VAWA protection is available to all victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking, regardless of sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation.<\/li>\n<li>Housing providers cannot discriminate on the basis of any protected characteristic, including race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, disability, or age.\u00a0 HUD-assisted and HUD-insured housing must be made available to all otherwise eligible individuals regardless of actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The following emergency transfer plan published by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Federal agency that oversees that <strong>Federal Public Housing at McDonald House and Florence Heights <\/strong>are in compliance with VAWA.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Emergency Transfers &nbsp;
